JW Jones

Canada

Not bad when Charlie Musselwhite sings your praises and Buddy Guy tells you in 2017 while playing on stage together, “I love the way you play, man.” Jones, a searing Canadian blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter is a 2015 Juno Award nominee, a Billboard magazine Top 10 Selling artist, a winner of the International Blues Challenge for Best Guitarist in 2020, and IBC winner of Best Self-Produced CD Award in 2017. His 2020 release, Sonic Departures, debuted at #4 on the Billboard Blues charts and he was nominated for four 2021 Maples Blues Awards among his 20+ nominations since 2001. His most recent accolade came this year, winning Best Jazz/Blues Artist at the Ottawa Awards.  The proof is in the playing… he brings his old-school blues, explosive playing, and all-in delivery to Omaha.

Jeremy Mercy &
the Rapture Orphans

USA

Jeremy Mercy was previously the writer/song-singer/paterfamilias of Omaha-based outlaw folk collective Travelling Mercies, with whom he recorded the studio albums Ghosts in the Bloodline (2011), Motel (2014), and Cheap Labor (2018). With 30 failed jobs under his belt by age 30, Mercy turned to music, and his working-class roots run straight through his music, from the blue-collar desperation and resolve of his characters right down to his no-frills guitar playing and song forms. Mercy’s raw and honest songwriting are often elevated to cinematic and transcendent levels. With his current band The Rapture Orphans (GeorgeAnne Prescott, Scott Johnson, Nathaniel Fowler), Mercy released the EP Heavyweight: Vol I in late 2021.
